All That You Have

Loosing my grip
Fists clenched in pain
Drifting from sight
Pelted with rain

Silence sighed deep
No longer sane
Darkness a voice
Called my name

Tears from her eyes
Filled me with light
Hope is near
Beautiful the sight

Cradled to her breast
Caressing my face
Softly I wept
Suspended in grace

Bending to whisper
Hair brushed my cheek
What we share
You may never speak

All that you have
Is far from complete
We shall fly again
Over fields of wheat

I am but an angel
Never to possess
I’m always near
This I must confess

A Dream Within A Dream

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow--
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand--
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep--while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

Wild Nights

Pacific Ocean off Baranof Island, Alaska 2007 Photo by Mr. Blue

WILD nights! Wild nights!
Were I with thee,
Wild nights should be
Our luxury!

Futile the winds
To a heart in port,—
Done with the compass,
Done with the chart.

Rowing in Eden!
Ah! the sea!
Might I but moor
To-night in thee!

Emily Dickinson (1830–86)

I Know

I know she watches
I can hear her breathe
To acknowledge
She will leave

I know she listens
I can feel her sigh
To reveal
She will deny

I know she cares
I can smell her scent
To expose
She will resent

I know she whispers
I can taste her sweat
To divulge
She will regret

I know she dreams
I can see her heart
To declare
She will depart

I know no option
I can not fear
To ignore
She will disappear

Angel of the Sierra

What about the one who said he missed you
What about the one who said he cared
Don’t bother trying to find her
Way up in the icy air

You played with her heartstrings
And you played without a care
But not up in the high sierra
You won’t play her heart out there

Angels lays their clouds across her sky
They line up for her every night
Some with wings and other that sings
The rest does lazy ballets in the air

There she’s got a bird to give her warning
And she’s got a lookout too
The beauty of the high sierra
And she’s looking out for you

What about the one who said he missed you
What about the one who said he cared
She’s off in the high sierras
But don’t bother looking there
